polaroid camera

Whilst in Nova Huta, we stumbled across an old junk market selling second hand goods, including this polaroid camera, which i bought and tried to find film for, to no avail.

Provisional Construction

A structure or building that requires constant upkeep in order to remain permanent, eg the Friday Mosque in Mali, which is partially washed away and must be given a fresh coat of clay every year, at the Fete de Crepisage (festival of replastering).

Interdependence is a concept in economics: that all prices are to some degree affected by all other prices and also that all markets are affected by all other markets.

So when in Nova Huta we engaged in mundane activities, trying to find film for a camera or food from the local market, the price of these was affected to some degree by how much we would pay for these back home, the search for these everyday items gave us an insight into how the town worked from the inside out, however we were tourists none the less, in search of an ‘authentic experience’.

As a tourist you engage in the global economy, use global resources, contribute your part to global warming, and take snapshots of the world that you are engaging in.

We find out about a place through the internet, which serves to wet our appetite, so we go there for the real experience, however we have already had an economic effect in some small way upon it, and when we get there we have a physical effect upon it.
